Sauta Cave National Wildlife Refuge
|
Located
Jackson County Alabama, the 264 acre Sauta Cave National
Wildlife Refuge was formally known as Blowing Wind Cave Wildlife
Refuge. Although not open to the public, Sauta Cave itself has
two entrances. Serving as a minor hibernation cave for federally
endangered gray and Indiana bats, Sauta Cave offers one of
nature's most spectacular events every evening at dusk during
the months of June, July, and August when approximately 250,000
pats leave the cave. A wildlife viewing platform is available
for this event.
Hiking and wildlife observation is available
outside the cave in Sauta Cave National Wildlife Refuge.
Sauta Cave NWR is located in Jackson County Alabama, 7 miles
west of Scottsboro, with an entrance gate along the south side
of US 72.
