South Mountains State Park Equestrian Camping
South Mountains State Park, features an equestrian camping area which is adjacent to the horse trailer parking area. The equestrian camping area consists of 15 campsites, a 33-stall barn (nine 5'x10' & twenty three 10'x10'), and a washhouse with hot showers and flush toilets. South Mountains State Park is located 20.5 miles south of Morganton North Carolina and may be reached from I-40, turn south onto NC 18 and travel 9 miles to NC 1913 (Sugarloaf Road) and turn right.
Continue along Sugarloaf Road to Old NC 18 and turn left. Travel 4 miles along Old NC 18 and turn right onto Ward's Gap Road (SR 1901). South Mountains State Park is located off SR 1901 on SR 1904.
