Kit Carson Riding Club
Kit Carson Riding Club has a long history of pride! Established in May of 1942 by a group of riders who on a particular day took a ride over to what is now Fort Carson Army base. Upon returning home they decided to organize and call their club Kit Carson on behalf of the army base where they had made their first ride. The first elected president of the small group was Dorothy Keller and the meetings and dances were held on the second floor of the Carpenters Union Hall located at the corner of Tejon and Cucharras Streets.
A drill and quadrille were formed and this group performed at the Penrose Stadium the first year it was built. The club has since carried flags from all States at various parades, fairs, and rodeos, including the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo. Kit Carson Riding Club has always been active in promoting all types of horsemanship events such as gymkhanas, cowboy polo, trail rides, drill teams , and rodeos. The members are especially interested in the youth and do their utmost to help and encourage them to participate in such activities as the 4-H groups, calf roping, high school rodeos, etc..
