White River National Forest
Beginning as an old jeep road, the 2.8 mile Antones Trail
then travels into an aspen forest as it begins it's uphill climb to the
top of a ridge with a small meadow where the trail may become faint. From
the top of the ridge Antones Lake Trail is accessible to the right.
Descending through aspen, spruce, fir and another meadow, Antones Trail
becomes difficult to find because of cattle trails. Running to the right
of the Antones Spring stock tank the trail follows the drainage to the
Powerline Road (FR 414), near Sylvan Lake. Scenic views of
Mount of the Holy Cross (14,005') and the mountain peaks of the Sawatch
Range are available from this point. Antones Trail is available for
hiking, and horseback riding. To reach Antones
Trail from Eagle Colorado, travel west along I-70 to the Gypsum exit and
turn left. Travel toward town, turning right at the Forest access sign,
Valley Road, which will turn into Gypsum Creek Road (FR412). Continue along
this road for 18 miles to it's dead end at Lede Reservoir. The trail begins
at the east end of the reservoir.
