White River National Forest
Beginning in an aspen grove, the 4.26 mile Dead Dog Trail
gains elevation and travels through a spruce/fir forest. As the trail
approaches the ridge before Middle Lake it becomes steep. After reaching
the ridge between the Middle & West Lake Creek drainages Dead Dog Trail
dips slightly into the Middle Lake Creek drainage. Dead Dog Trail ends at
it's junction with Middle Lake Trail. Dead Dog Trail is
available for hiking & horseback riding.To reach Dead Dog Trail from Eagle
Colorado, travel east along I-70 for 16.5 miles to the Edwards exit and
travel south towards the town and Highway 6.
Turn right (west) onto Highway 6 and continue 0.7 miles to Lake Creek
Road. Turn left (south) onto Lake Creek Road and continue 1.8 miles to
West Lake Road. Turn right onto West Lake Road and look for the East Lake
Creek trailhead sign on the left. Follow this road for about 4 miles to
the trailhead, staying to the right at the "Y" after the bridge. Travel
along East Lake Creek Trail #1880 for 0.8 mile to the junction with Dead
Dog Trail.
