White River National Forest
Available for both hiking and horseback
riding, Gore Creek Trail travel 5.48 miles to Gore Lake and 6.8 miles to
Red Buffalo Pass. One of the most popular trails in the Eagle's Nest
Wilderness, Gore Creek Trail climbs alongside Gore Creek for the first 4
miles. At the 4 mile mark, the trail forks; straight ahead travels over
Red Buffalo Pass to
Summit County, while the left fork travels to Gore Lake. To reach Gore Creek Trail take
exit 180 from I-70 for East Vail. If traveling eastbound, turn right at the
bottom of the off ramp. If traveling westbound, turn left. Continue east
down Bighorn Road about 2.5 miles (almost to it's end). The trailhead is
located on the left before reaching
Gore Creek Campground.
