Eagle County Colorado Hiking Trails
|
White River National Forest
Located within Eagles Nest Wilderness, the 4.5 mile Pitkin
Creek Trail is strenuous for the first mile as it climbs steeply out of
the Vail Valley. Leveling out somewhat, Pitkin Creek Trail passes through
mature aspen groves and spruce-fir forest. At about 2.5 miles, steep
switchbacks reveal the first of 2 waterfalls on Pitkin Creek about
200 yards to the east. To reach Pitkin Creek Trail from
Vail Colorado, travel east along I-70 exit 180 for East Vail. Turn left
and travel under the interstate. Turn right onto the north frontage road
and continue to the trailhead on the left side of the road before the
Pitkin Creek Townhomes.
