Jackson County Colorado Hiking Trails
Grimes Peak Trail #58
|
|
Routt
National Forest
Available for hiking, biking and horseback
riding, the 8 mile Grimes Peak Trail is a moderate trail which climbs
a ridge to Grimes Peak. Lying within the Troublesome Area, Grimes Peak
Trail end at a private subdivision.
To Reach Grimes Peak Trail from Rand Colorado, travel
along Highway 125 to FR 106. Continue along FR 106 for about a mile and
turn left onto FR 107. Travel along the 4WD FR 107 to it's end and take
the trail down the draw to Matheson Reservoir to hook up to the trail.
|
|
| Because FR 107 is rough and
narrow, it is best to park at the top of Poison Ridge. Horse trailers may
want to park at the intersection of FR 106 and FR 730, or further down on
FR 106 before it climbs up to FR 730. Access to the Grimes Peak Trail is
limited due to private lands to the south and limited access to the road
to the north. The only access on National Forest land is via FR 107.
