Shrine Pass Road

Available for both hiking, 4WD and mountain biking, the 11.2 mile Shrine Pass Road (FR 709) is an easy road which may be done carefully in a passenger car.

Reset odometer where the road turns from pavement to dirt. Shrine Pass and the trailhead for the Shrine Mountain Trail is located at a large parking area at mile 2.3. The road then descends gradually to a smaller parking area at mile 3.7, where there is a short, easy walk to "Julia's Deck" which overlooks Mount of the Holy Cross and is used for picnics and weddings. Lime Creek Road (FR 728) is reached at mile 3.8.

Stay right at mile 4.6 where FR 713 goes left. At mile 7 FR 758 is reached on the left. a small wooden bridge on the left at mile 8.7 travels to McCallister Gulch Road (FR 708) and Wearyman Road (FR 7474). a brown info board on the right at mile 9.3 marks the start of Lime Creek Road (FR 743). The town of Red cliff is reached at 11.2 miles. Take a right to get to Highway 24.

To reach Shrine Pass Road from Vail Colorado, travel east along I-70 to exit 190 for Vail Pass. Exit and turn right traveling west, onto Shrine Pass Road (dirt).
