White River National Forest
Starting out as a steep trail, the 2 mile Savage Lakes
Trail soon becomes on of the more moderate hikes in the area.
To reach Savage Lakes Trail from Carbondale Colorado,
travel east along Highway 82 to Basalt and turn left onto Fryingpan
River Road. Continue traveling east along Fryingpan River Road for 27
miles (about 3 miles past Meredith) and turn left onto road #501. Travel
1 mile past
Elk Wallow Campground and take the left fork for about 3.25 miles to
the trail head (0.2 mile before the dead end)
