Papoose Trail #2248

Available for Hiking, and Horseback Riding,
the 4.6 mile Papoose Trail follows Papoose Creek for 2 miles before
climbing a rocky point where Papoose Creek cascades down several short
waterfalls
100' below the trail. Entering Papoose Basin the dominant tree becomes
the aspen and the trail turns gradually to the west and climbs a series
of switchbacks out of Papoose Basin onto Nimerick Point (western most
promontory of the Flat Tops plateau) Once on the plateau the trail
follows a long narrow park for 0.75 mile to it's junction with
Oyster Lake Trail #1825.

To reach Papoose Trail from Meeker Colorado, travel east along CO 13 for
a mile and turn east onto CR 8. Continue along CR 8 for 28 miles and
turn south, cross the bridge and turn west (left) onto CR 12 (Marvine
Creek Road). Travel along CR 12 for 1 mile to Ute Creek Road. Follow Ute
Creek Road for 1 mile taking the right fork to the Papoose Trail parking
area. From this point travel 0.25 mile along Ute Lodge Road. The trail
begins to the left of the entrance to Ute Lodge.
