Big Creek Lake Trail #1184

Available for hiking and horseback riding,
the 1.7 mile Big Creek Lake Trail begins by traveling downhill for a short
distance, reaching a boulder meadow, after which Big Creek Lake Trail
heads up short switchbacks to the top of the ridge to another park meadow.
Within this section the trail is undefined and may be marked with a few
cairns. Pick up the trail again on the north end of the meadow between the
ridges. From this point the trail travels downhill through spruce and fir
until reaching Big Creek Lake. |

Two access points are available
for Big Creek Lake Trail:
- Travel north of Steamboat Colorado along Strawberry Park Road to
CR60 (Buffalo Pass Road) and turn right. Continue along CR 60 for 9
miles and turn right just before Summit Lake and park in the parking
area. Walk along Wyoming Trail #1101 about 6 miles and turn left onto
Luna Lake Trail #1168. Travel past Luna Lake eastwardly to the junction
with Big Creek Lake on the right.
- From the Mad Creek area travel along trail #1100 into Mount Zirkel
Wilderness and turn right onto Luna Lake Trail #1168. Continue east to
Big Creek Trail (on left) just before reaching Luna Lake.
