Available for hiking and horseback
riding, the 5.9 mile Black Mountain Creek Trail begins opposite the
Sheriff Reservoir dam and travels along an old logging road through a
large meadow for the first mile. Black Mountain Creek Trail becomes steep
at 1.4 miles as it crosses a shale outcrop. Turning south Black Mountain
Creek Trail travels through an area know as Windy gap. At 2.5 miles the
trail enters Flat Tops Wilderness (Elevation 11,125'). The trails travels
on to descend into the East Fork Williams Fork drainage to East Fork Trail
#1119. |

To reach Black Mountain Creek Trail from Yampa Colorado, travel 5 miles
north along CR 17 to CR 132. Follow CR 132 west for 3.4 miles to Forest
Highway 16. Continue 6 miles along 16 to Sheriff Reservoir Road 959.
Travel 2.6 miles south along Sheriff Reservoir to the trailhead parking.
