Routt National Forest
Available for hiking, biking and horseback
riding, the 6.5 mile Coulton Creek Trail begins climbing through clear
areas and into aspen groves providing the first views of the Elk Valley,
after which the trail splits while crossing over FR 429. Keep right while
Coulton Creek Trail continues to climb, level off and climb again to reach
meadows. After crossing FR 429 again the trail once again forks. To
continue on Coulton Creek Trail stay left to it's dead end, about 1 mile
from the base of Farwell Mountain. |

To reach Coulton Creek Trail travel west of Steamboat
Springs along Highway 40 for 2 miles and turn right onto CR 129. Continue
along CR 129 for about 18 miles to Seedhouse Road (CR64/FR400) and turn
right. Continue for 4.5 miles to the Coulton Creek Trail sign.
The west end of Nipple Peak Trail can be accessed by
travel west along US 40 for 24 miles to Hayden and turn right onto CR 80
to California Park, 20 miles. Travel through California park to Slanter
Park and turn right onto FR 156 to the Nipple Peak Trailhead. Follow
Nipple Peak Trail 4 miles to Burton Creek Trail. |
