Routt National Forest
Available for hiking, biking, ATVs, motorcycles and
horseback riding, the 8.3 mile Ellis Trail is a National Historic
Trail. From the north side, Ellis Trail is fairly flat and winds through
meadow for the first mile until reaching FR 509 (an old logging road).
From this point the heavily wooded single track Ellis Trail climbs steeply
up the north side of Hahn's Peak and is rough and rocky for a mile. The
trail begins a gradual down hill after reaching FR 413 & 414.
