Jessie Gerard Trail
Located within Peoples State Forest, the 1.3 mile Jessie Gerard Trail begins at East River Road with the right fork traveling through the old Indian Settlement known as Barkhamsted Lighthouse and on to the Chaugham Lookouts. The left fork of Jessie Gerard Trail climbs to the overlooks via 299 stone steps. Continuing north, Jessie Gerard Trail passes between the Veeder Boulders to the picnic area along Greenwoods Road.
To reach Peoples State Forest from Barkhamsted, travel along Route 318 across the steel bridge and turn immediately to the left onto West River Road. Continue along West River Road for about 1 miles.
