Art Loeb Trail

Located in
Transylvania
and
Haywood County, within
Pisgah National Forest, the 12.3 mile first section of the 30.1 mile
Art Loeb Trail travels from some of the lowest to some of the highest
points on the Pisgah District. Rated strenuous, section 1 of the Art
Loeb Trail travels through beautiful, but rugged terrain. A National
Recreation Trail, most of Art Loeb Trail is overlapped by the
Mountains-to-the-Sea Trail.
Beginning at the Davison River, section 1 of the Art Loeb Trail
climbs steeply to Shut-in Ridge. Marked with a white blaze, Art Loeb
Trail continues up and down along ridges and gaps. |

To reach Section 1 of the Art Loeb Trail from the Pisgah District Ranger
Station, travel south along US 276 for 0.2 miles and turn onto the road
to
Davidson River Campground. Park at the Art Loeb Trailhead parking
lot.
The other end of this section is located at Gloucester Gap, along
Forest Service Road 471. Overnight parking is not recommended at this
end.
