Backside Trail

| Located within
Crowders Mountain State Park, the 0.9 mile Backside Trail begins at
the Linwood Access Area and travels to the summit of Crowders Mountain.
Marked with orange hexagons, Backside Trail is rated strenuous and
requires the hiker to climb 336 wooden steeps just before reaching the
summit.
To reach Crowders Mountain State Park from I-85 southbound, take
exit 13 to Edgewood Road. Turn left onto Edgewood Road, continue to
the first stoplight and turn right onto Franklin Boulevard (Highway
74). Follow Highway 74 for about 2 miles to Sparrow Springs Road and
turn left. Continue along Sparrow Springs Road for less than a mile to
the park entrance on the right. |

From I-85 northbound, take exit 8 and turn right onto NC 161. Follow NC
161 for about 0.25 mile and turn left onto Lake Montonia Road/Pinnacle
Road. Continue along Lake Montonia Road to it's end at Sparrow Springs.
Turn left onto Sparrow Springs Road and continue less than a mile to
Crowders Mountain State Park.
