Located within the
Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the 6.5 mile Rough Fork Trail is
rated easy. Beginning along Caldwell
Fork Trail, Rough Fork Trail follows a stream along a gravel road for
about 2 miles, traveling past several restored farm houses, after which the
trail becomes a narrow footpath through the forest. Rough Fork then travels
along a wide railroad grade to Polls Gap. Rough Fork Trail is available to
both hikers and horseback riders.
To reach Rough Fork Trail from I-40, take the Cove Creek exit and
travel west along NC 276 to Cove Creek Road and turn right. Continue along
Cove Creek Road for 6 miles and turn left onto Cataloochee Road. Travel
3.1 miles along Cataloochee Road to the trail on the left. |
