Hazel Creek Trail

Smoky Mountains National Park
Before the area was flooded in the forming of Fontana
Lake, Highway 288 connected some of the towns in the area. Hazel Creek
Trail travels along the the section of old 288 on the north shore
where the road and towns were abandoned. Following Hazel Creek, Hazel
Creek Trail reaches Proctor Backcountry Campsite #86 (capacity
20) at 0.5 mile, and Sawdust Pile Campsite #85 (capacity 20) at
mile 3.3. At 5 miles Hazel Creek Trail reaches a junction with Sugar
Fork Trail and Sugar Fork Campsite #84 (capacity 8). Bone Valley
Trail & Bone Valley Campsite #83 (capacity 20) at mile

At mile 8.6 Hazel Creek Trail arrives at the Calhoun Camp Campsite
#82 (capacity 15). At 9.5 miles the trail reaches the junction of
Hazel Creek and Walker Creek. Proctor Creek and Proctor Creek
Campsite #81 (capacity 15) is reached at mile 10.5 while mile 13.5
brings the hiker to Hazel Creek Cascades Campsite #80 (capacity
12).
