Located within Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, the 13.4 mile section of the Iron Mountain Trail which travels from the Damascus to Skulls Gap Trail is rated moderate/difficult. Available for hiking, biking, horseback riding and motorcycles, the Damascus to Skulls Gap Trail section of the Iron Mountain Trail is marked with a yellow blaze.

Mount Rogers National Recreation Area is located within Grayson, Washington, Wythe and Smyth County Virginia.
