Counties West Virginia, the 70,000 acre of land along the rugged,
white water New River offers a large variety of recreational
opportunities including whitewater rafting, fishing, primitive camping,
climbing, hiking and mountain biking.
Home to the longest single-span steel arch bridge in the western
hemisphere, the 3,030' New River Gorge Bridge is the location of
Bridge Day. Celebrated on the 3rd Saturday in October, Bridge Day
draws thousands of visitors and BASE jumpers. |

With 1,400 established rock climbs, some of the country's best
whitewater rafting, trails and waterfalls, it no wonder over one million
visitors per year visit New River Gorge National River.
Protecting 53 miles of the New River from Bluestone Dam to Hawk's
Nest Lake, the most popular section for whitewater rafting begins at the
Cunard put-in to the Fayette Station take-out.
Highway access to New River Gorge National River is reached from
Route 19, between Beckley and Hico, and from I-64, between Mossy and
Sandstone.
