Located along Allatoona Lake, the Army Corps of
Engineers operated Cooper's Furnace Day Use Area is listed on the National
Register of Historic Places and offers the opportunity to view the remnants
of an iron manufacturing facility which was started by Mark Anthony Cooper,
sold to the Confederate States of America and destroyed by Union Forces
during Sherman's Atlanta Campaign. In addition to the remaining cold blast
furnace, Cooper's Furnace Day Use Area offers picnicking, group camping
and hiking trails.

I=75 to exit 288 and turn south onto GA 113. Continue along GA 113 to the
second light and turn south onto US 41. Travel one mile along US 41 to the
River Road exit and turn left. Follow River Road to it's end at Cooper's
