The Patterson Mountain OHV Trail is an exciting trail for
all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and dirt bike enthusiasts. Almost 15
miles of trail contain challenges for users of differing skill
levels.
OHV VEHICLES PERMITTED: Motorcycles, motorbikes, four-wheel
all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), and mountain bicycles.
The Patterson Mountain OHV Trail will be open from dawn till
dusk during the following months: June 16 - September 30 and
December 8 - March 15.
Helmets are required.
Ride only on established trails. All trails are single lane with
turnouts.
Night riding is not allowed nor is the use of drugs or alcohol.
OHV operators must abide by all Virginia state laws governing
the use and:
No ATV operators under the age of 12.
ATV operators between the ages of 12 and 16 are use-restricted
to no less than 70 or no more than 90 cubic centimeter
displacement engine size.
All ATVs must have functioning factory-installed stock mufflers
and spark arrestors.
Gloves, goggles and protective clothing are recommended.
Camping in the trailhead parking area is prohibited.
Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the trail or at the
trailhead parking area.
Directions:
To access the trailhead facility, head north from Roanoke via
Route 220. Just past Eagle Rock, turn left onto Route 615 at the
Roaring Run Sign. Proceed about 1.5 miles, turning left onto
Route 685. After crossing Craig Creek, bear left at fork in the
road onto Route 818. Travel about 4 miles and turn left onto FDR
5020 (known locally as the O&I Road). Proceed about 3 miles to
trailhead parking on the left. There is no fee for using or
parking at this site.
