Alum Cove National Recreation Trail
|
Located within Ozark-St. Francis National Forest, the 1.1
mile Alum Cove National Recreation Trail travels 0.4 to the
remains of a quartz sandstone cave which now forms a natural
bridge. The arch which is 130' long and 20' wide reportedly
served as a bridge used by early settlers to move wagons and
livestock across the streambed during wet weather. Alum Cove
National Recreation Trail continues on past Alum Cove Natural
Bridge to offer views and access to many interesting rock
formations including caves and overhangs.
To reach Alum Cove National Recreation Trail from Jasper
Arkansas, travel south along Arkansas 7 for 15 miles and turn
west onto Arkansas 16. Continue along AR 16 for one mile and
turn northwest onto Newton County Road 28. Travel 3 miles along
CR 16.
