Inyo County California Hiking Trails
|
Located within the White Mountain Ranger District of the Inyo
National Forest, Sabrina Basin Trail leads into a basin of
13,000 foot granite peaks surrounding several alpine lakes.
Traveling to Blue Lake where the rugged Thompson Ridge reflects
in the clear waters of the lake, Sabrina Basin Trail reaches a
fork beyond Blue Lake.
Taking the right fork leads through a forest of lodge pole
pine as it provides access to Dignleberry, Hungry Packer and
Midnight Lakes. The jagged peaks of the Sierra Crest which is
dominated by Mt. Darwin and Mt. Haeckel serve as a backdrop to
these lakes.
The left fork, which is marked with cairns, leads to Donkey
and Baboon Lakes which are located below Mt. Powell and Mt.
Thompson.
To reach Sabrina Basin Trailhead from Hwy 395 in Bishop
California, turn west onto Line Street (Hwy 168) and travel 18
miles to Lake Sabrina. Day use parking is located at the end of
the road, while overnight parking is located at the turnout near
the North Lake turnoff.
