Located within the
Great Smoky
Mountains National Park, the seasonal Balsam Mountain Campground offers
46 sites which are available for both tents and trailers (30' max.).
Operating on a first-come, first-served basis, Balsam Mountain Campground
has restrooms with cold running water and flush toilets. Balsam Mountain
Campground does not however have showers or electric or water hookups. Each
campsite has a fire grate and picnic table. Balsam Mountain Campground is
situated at an elevation of 5,300'.
To reach Balsam Mountain Campground from the Oconaluftee Visitor Center
near Cherokee North Carolina, travel along Newfound Gap Road for 0.5 miles
south to the Blue Ridge Parkway and turn left. Continue along the Blue Ridge
Parkway for 10.8 miles to Heintooga Ridge Road and turn left. Travel 8 miles
along Heintooga Ridge Road to the campground on left.
