Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve
The 3.0 mile Mosca Pass Trail leaves the national park and enters the national
preserve almost immediately as it follows the route of an old wagon road
through a deep canyon filled with aspens and conifers. It continues through
a series of open meadows ringed by forest rising to Mosca Pass. Mosca Pass
Trail is rated moderate/strenuous and
ends at Mosca Pass, where it meets US Forest Road #583.
Mosca Pass Trail is available for
hiking and horseback riding.
Directions:
Great Sand Dunes National Monument is located 35 miles northeast of
Alamosa, Colorado, reached by US Highway 160 and Colorado Highway 150 from
the south. or from Colorado Highway 17 and County Six Mile Lane from the
west.
