Containing 24,000 acres, the Hardscrabble Area offers a large
variety of recreational opportunities including hiking,
mountain biking, motorcycle riding,
ATV, 4x4, and hunting. With an
elevation ranging from 6,500 to 9,700 feet, the Hardscrabble
offers many panorama views.
Three public access areas are available for the Hardscrabble
Area:
Spring Creek: From I-70 take the Gypsum exit and travel east
along Highway 6 for about 0.5 miles and turn south (right) onto
Valley Road. Continue along Valley Road for 0.5 mile and turn
east (left) onto Cooley Mesa Road. Follow Cooley Mesa Road for
1.5 miles and turn south (right) onto Spring Creek Road. Travel
1 mile along Spring Creek Road and turn left onto BLM Road 8380.
BLM Road 8384: From I-70 take the Gypsum exit and travel east
along Highway 6 for about 0.5 miles and turn south (right) onto
Valley Road. Continue along Valley Road for 0.5 mile and turn
east (left) onto Cooley Mesa Road. Follow Cooley Mesa Road for 3
miles and turn right onto BLM 8384.
Hardscrabble Road: From I-70 take the Eagle exit and travel
west along Highway 6 for 1 mile and turn south (left) onto
Sylvan Lake Road. Following the signs to Sylvan Lake, travel 5
miles to Hardscrabble Road and turn right.
