Rio
Grande National Forest
Available for hiking, and horseback riding,
Bear Lake Trail is very steep for the most part with numerous switchbacks.
At about 10,500' the trail becomes less steep as it travels through
subalpine meadows. From an elevation of about 11,300' the trail remains
within the dense alpine forest until it reaches Bear Lake which sits in a
bowl surround by 1,000' cliffs.
