Rio
Grande National Forest
Available for hiking, and horseback riding,
Duck Lake Trail is fairly steep for the first mile, as it climbs above Elk
Creek, while the remaining 2 miles travels along gently rolling terrain.
Just below Duck Lake, the a view of the waterfall formed where
South Elk Creek tumbles over a high ledge is available.
To reach Duck Lake Trail from Antonito Colorado, travel
west along Highway 17 for about 23 miles to the
Elk Creek Campground turnoff, and travel along the left fork for
1 mile past the campground. Park at the main trailhead area and travel
along the 4WD for 0.25 mile to reach the beginning of the trail.
