Available for Hikers & Horseback riders, the 3.5 mile Coal Creek Trail ends
on private property, you must return the way you came. 3 campsites
are available for overnight camping, however no water is available. The Coal
Creek Trailhead accesses West Peak Trail, Vista Point Trail, Levy-Krier Trail
and Apishipa Trail.

Two access points are available for Coal Creek Trail:
- From LaVeta, travel 25 miles south along CO 12 to CR 34. Travel 5 miles
along CR 34 to Purgatorie Campground. After reaching the campground turn in to
the Northfork trailhead parking. Travel along the Northfork Trail for 3.5
miles to the junction of Wildcat Trail. Continue along Wildcat Trail for 0.5
miles to the junction with Coal Creek Trail.
- From LaVeta, travel along CO 12 to CR 422. Continue along CR 322 for 3
miles to the Blue Lake Campground entrance and turn left onto FR 436 (4WD)and
travel 1.5 miles to Northfork Trailhead. Travel along Northfork Trail for 1
mile to the junction of the Wildcat Trail. Take Wildcat Trail for 0.75 to Coal
Creek Trail.
