Located in the Fremont Pass Area of the Leadville Ranger District, the
17 mile Birdseye Gulch Loop offers an 1,800' gain in elevation.
Begin in Leadville at East 7th and Harrison. Travel along East 7th
Street past the Matchless Mine where the road turns to dirt. Continue on
the main road staying left at the 2 forks and travel up towards Mosquito
Pass. At the saddle before the high switchbacks, turn left and travel
north down Buckeye Gulch. You will follow this "road" through a major bog
and past the railroad tracks to Colorado 91. At this point take a left and
travel along the highway back to Leadville. |
