Animas River Drainage
Located within the Columbine Ranger District of
San Juan National Forest, the 6.0 mile Big Bend Trail is rated most
difficult and has a starting elevation of 10,600' (Top of Highline Trail)
and an ending elevation of 8,400' (Hermosa Creek Trail).
Big Bend Trail may be accessed from 2 different locations:
Access #1 may be reached by traveling 28 miles north of
Durango Colorado along U.S.550 to Hermosa Park Road. Turn west onto
Hermosa Park Road and continue 10.5 mils to it's junction with Hotel Draw
Road, turn west and continue about 5 mils to Scotch Creek Road.
