Animas River Drainage
Located within the Columbine Ranger District of
San Juan National Forest, the 4.5 mile Ice Lake Trail #505 is rated
most difficult and receives heavy use. Ice Lake Trail begins at an
elevation of 9,840' (Trailhead off FDR 585, South Mineral Creek) and an
ending elevation of 12,260' (Ice Lake).
The short, steep Ice Lake Trail travels uphill all the way
to the lake basin. Several peaks are visible fro the lake basin including;
Grant Peak, Fuller Peak, and Beatie Peak.
