Located within the Pagosa Ranger District of
San Juan National Forest, the 8 mile (from trailhead to
Continental Divide at Squaw Pass) Cimarrona Trail is located just past
the entrance to the Cimarrona Campground (on the left).
The first 2 miles of Cimarrona Trail are relatively easy, traveling
through the spruce/fir forest on the edge of Weminuche Wilderness.
Cimarrona Trail then begins to climb fairly steeply, gaining about
3,000' in 6 miles. On the northeast side of Cimarrona Peak you will
pass the Hossick Creek Trail #585 junction before climbing up to the
Continental Divide at Squaw Pass.
