White
River National Forest
Available for Hiking, and Horseback Riding,
the 23.25 mile South Fork Trail follows the South Fork of the White River
and is almost completely within Flat Tops Wilderness. A 2 mile section of
private property is crossed about 3 miles from the campground at the mouth
of Lost Solar Creek. From Lost Solar Creek the trail crosses Park Creek, 7
miles from the trailhead. Three miles above Park Creek South Fork Falls
is visible. |

Three miles above the falls,
the canyon begins to widen out near Budges Resort, which is accessible by
Coffee Pot road from Dotsero on the Colorado River. Heading north following
the river, the trail travels through a wide grassy area extending for
several miles called "the meadows". After passing Nichols Creek & Doe Creek,
the trail turns east traveling out of the canyon onto Flat Tops Plateau,
ending at Trappers
Lake Trail #1816 near Shingle Peak.
To reach South Fork Trail from Meeker Colorado, travel east along CO 13
for 1 mile and turn east onto CR 8. Continue along CR 8 for 18 miles and
turn south onto CR 10. Travel for 2 miles along CR 10, jog north for 0.25
mile, then east for 10 miles to
South Fork Campground.
