From that point until you reach the tree line the Lake Fork drainage will be
to the south (left) of the trail as you ascend. At about 1.75 miles the trail
reaches a fork where you will bear left (the right fork is an unmarked trail
leading up to the Continental Divide). At about 2 miles Gibson Lake Trail
reaches the tree line. Soon after reaching the tree line the trail makes 3 major
stream crossings. After the 3rd crossing the trail bears southwest through
willows and tundra up to the self on which Gibson Lake is located. At the south
end of the lake there is a long, ribbon-like
waterfall drainage into Gibson Lake from a smaller lake above.
Gibson Lake Trail is rated easy.
To reach Gibson Lake Trail from Bailey Colorado, travel 14.3 miles west along
Highway 285 and turn north (right) onto CR 60 (Hall Valley Road/FS120). Continue
along Hall Valley Road for 6.5 miles to the trailhead.
