White River National Forest
Available for Hiking, Horseback Riding, and Motorcycles
(seasonal), the 4.3 mile North Elk Trail follows the east fork of North
Elk for about 2 miles to the junction of the middle east fork of
North Elk Creek, after which North Elk Trail follows the main fork 1.3
miles down to the Hamilton Cow Camp. The last mile of the trail follows
an old road.
To reach North Elk Trail from Meeker Colorado, travel
east along CO 13 for 1 mile and turn east onto CR 8. Continue along CR 8
for 20 miles and turn south onto Buford-New Castle Road (CR 17 to Forest
boundary, then FR 245) and continue 11 miles to the trailhead.
