Rio Grande County Colorado Hiking Trails

Cathedral Trail #794

Rio Grande National Forest

Available for hiking, ATVs and motorcycles, Cathedral Trail begins on the east side of Cathedral Campground, travel over Cathedral Creek and travels steadily up along the creek and toward the cliffs of Cathedral rock. Cathedral Trail crosses the creek many times.

Cathedral Trail offers 2 access points.

  1. Travel west along US160 from Del Norte Ranger Station for about 9 miles and turn right onto Embargo Access Road. Continue along Embargo Access Road for 5 miles to Groundhog Park road junction. Turn left and follow FR640 to cathedral Campground.

  2. Follow the same route as above to road junction with FR640. Stay on road #650 and follow it about 19 miles to Groundhog Park.
