The Basin Lead Trail, which is a Monroe County Tennessee Hiking Trail, is an easy drive from Murphy, North Carolina in Cherokee County.

Pets must be restrained or on a leash at all times while in developed recreation areas.

Length: 6.2  miles
Rating: Strenuous

Difficult and challenging trail due to steep grades and overgrowth offers a great day hike. Begins from the Tellico River Road (FDR #210) and goes to Bald River Road (FDR #126-2) at Basin Gap. Roadside parking available. 

Directions:

Start out going Northeast on US-411. Turn RIGHT onto TN-310. TN-310 becomes TN-39. Turn RIGHT onto TN-68. Turn LEFT onto TN-165.
