This large remote basin is outlined by a horseshoe-shaped rim of densely
forested mountains rising to over 5000 feet. Fires Creek drains the basin
and the 5240 foot Tusquitee Bald crowns its rugged steep terrain. Most
trails connect to the Rim Trail, which follows the ridgeline around the
basin. Some Rim Trail sections are for hiking only.
