Polk County Tennessee Hiking Trails

Located within Cherokee National Forest, the 1.5 mile Benton
Falls Trail travels from near McCamy Lake in Chilhowee
Recreation Area to the 65' Benton Falls. Rated Moderate, Benton
Falls Trail is marked with a blue blaze as it crosses the
earthwork dam which creates McCamy Lake, then crossing through a
nice shade for about 0.25 miles. After traveling the first
quarter mile, Benton Falls Trail travels through a one mile area
of brush and weeds. The results of a fire, this one mile section
of Benton Falls Trail offers almost no shade and is not the most
enjoyable trail. It is good to remind yourself during this
section of the trail that Benton Falls is worth the effort.
To reach Benton Falls Trail from US 64, between
Cleveland Tennessee and Ducktown Tennessee. Look for the sings
to Chilhowee Recreation Area and take SR 77. Travel along SR 77
for 7 miles to Chilhowee Campground. Turn right at the
campground sign and continue another 0.5 miles to the parking
area. The trailhead is located just south of the parking area.
