This National Recreation Trail follows Hiawassee riverbank
and traces part of route of naturalist John Muir's 1,000-mile walk to Gulf
of Mexico in 1867.

Directions From Reliance:
Take Highway 315 toward Tellico Plains and cross the
Hiawassee River and take the first right after crossing railroad tracks.
This National Recreation Trail begins at the Childers Creek parking lot
near Reliance and ends on FS #311 near Farner. The trail follows the
Hiawassee State Scenic River with access to several recreation sites along
the way. Parking is available at Childers Creek, Big Bend, Towee,
Powerhouse Boat Launch, Coker Creek Trail junction, Highway 68 and FS
#311.
