Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail
|
Located within the
Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Roaring Fork Motor
Nature Trail is a 6 mile, one-way, loop road available for motor
vehicle traffic. In addition to the rushing mountain streams,
old-growth forest, several well-preserved log cabins, grist
mills and other historic buildings, Roaring Fork Motor Nature
Trail also provides access to several area waterfalls and
trails.
Just before entering the trail Noah "Bud" Ogle self-guided
nature trail offers a walking tour of an authentic mountain
farmstead. Past the farmstead is the trailhead for
Rainbow Falls. The entrance to Roaring Fork Motor Nature
Trail is located just after the parking areas for Rainbow Falls.
The trail travels on passing several homes and other preserved
buildings, the trailhead for
Grotto Falls, and the "wet water" waterfall
Place of a Thousands Dips.
To reach Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail turn at traffic
light #8 along the main parkway in Gatlinburg Tennessee and
follow Historic Nature Trail Road to the Cherokee Orchard
entrance to the national park. Buses, trailers and motor homes
are not permitted along Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, and the
road is closed in winter.
