Fayette County West Virginia Hiking Trails
Canyon Rim Trail
|
New River Gorge National River
Length: 1.6 mile
Probably the best place to begin any visit to Grandview is at the Main
Overlook. The view includes seven miles of the New River, which began its
journey in the mountains of North Carolina.
The walk from the Main Overlook to Turkey Spur follows the Canyon Rim
Trial. This 1.6 mile trail follows along a ridge, and has a couple good
ups and downs along the way. The North Overlook is a worthwhile stop, only
minutes from the Main Overlook. There are several other vantage points
before it arrives at the start of the Turkey Spur Trail & Boardwalk.

The upper overlooks at Turkey
Spur are reached by climbing 150 steps to some excellent views of the
tight bends and meanders of the New River. The railroad tracks below
are still active, and once served as the main line for the Chesapeake
& Ohio Railroad. Note: There is also a road that can be taken
to the start of the Turkey Spur Trail. |
From Beckley:
Follow Interstate 64 East to the Grandview Exit (Exit 129 B). Turn right,

From Lewisburg:

to the Main Overlook.
