|
Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland
Located within the Boulder Ranger District, Pawnee Pass Trail is
heavily used for the first 0.25 miles to Long Lake. At the east end of
Long Lake, Jean Lunning Trail #907
turns south (left) and Pawnee Pass Trail enters Indian Peaks Wilderness
following along Long Lake as a wide, fairly flat trail. Jean Lunning Trail
is again met 0.25 miles beyond the end of the lake. |
|
Beyond the Jean Lunning Trail
junction, Pawnee Pass Trail continues up the valley at a gentle grade
through wooded terrain before making a short climb to Lake Isabelle. At the
east end of Lake Isabelle, Isabelle
Glacier Trail #908 continues along the north shore of Lake Isabelle to
the source of South Saint Vrain Creek; Isabelle Glacier.
Pawnee Pass Trail turns north (right) and climbs on a switchback trail.
After crossing a couple of creeks Pawnee Pass Trail circles under a ridge
and above Lake Isabelle., then gains a wide bench above treeline by a
series of short switchbacks. Continuing westward on Pawnee Pass Trail
(Trail #1 on the west side of the Divide) would take you 9.75 miles to
Monarch Lake via the Cascade Creek Trail. |
