Traveling from Baryeta Cabins site through Holy Cross
Wilderness to Middle Lake, the 3.5 mile Middle Lake Trail is one of the
steepest and most challenging trails in the Eagle District. Climbing 1000'
in the first 0.5 mile to a total rise of 2,299' at the highest point 2.5
miles along the trail. Dead Dog Trail #2220
connects with Middle Lake Trail at 1.5 miles. To reach
Middle Lake Trail from Eagle Colorado, travel east along I-70 for 16.5
miles to the Edwards exit and travel south towards the town and Highway 6. Turn right onto Highway 6, heading
west for 0.7 miles to Lake Creek Road and turn left. Continue along Lake
Creek Road for 1.8 miles and turn right onto West Lake Creek Road. Travel
2.7 miles to Baryeta Cabins Road (FR 423) and turn right at the switchback.
This road will become a rough 4WD road for 3.2 miles until it dead-ends at
the Baryeta Cabins site.
