Cossatot River State Park - Natural Area

Located south of Mena Arkansas, in
Howard and Polk
Counties, Cossatot River State Park-Natural Area
stretches 12 miles along the wild and scenic Cossatot River.
Know as the best whitewater float stream in mid-America,
Cossatot River forms Cossatot Falls, the rugged and rocky
canyon, which thrills and challenges even the most experienced
kayakers and canoeists. This rainfall dependent river offers
Class IV and Class V rapids when the water is high, drops to
Class II-III whitewater normal levels are reached during dryer
times.
Offering swimming, fishing and the opportunity to float pool to
pool through riffles and small rapids during normal levels,
Cossatot River State Park-Natural Area reaches it's peak
whitewater season during the wetter times of late-fall, winter
and spring as the river becomes floatable.
In addition to it's water related activities, Cossatot River
State Park-Natural Area also offers a 15,000 square-foot visitor
center and the opportunities for
hiking and
camping.

To reach Cossatot River State Park-Natural Area from the north,
travel along AR 246 between Vandervoort and Athens. The southern
route is via US 278 between Wickes and Umpire.
