Huckleberry Mountain Horse Trail
|
Located within
Ozark-St. Francis National Forests, the 37.3 mile Huckleberry
Mountain Horse Trail was originally designed for
horseback riding, but is now available for
hikers, off-highway vehicles (OHVs)
and mountain biking. Traveling through numerous
creeks which provide water for the horses, Huckleberry Mountain
Horse Trail crosses Big Shoal Creek six times.
Consisting of two main loops; Huckleberry Mountain Loop and
the 11.9 mile Apple Loop, Huckleberry Mountain Horse Trail
crosses several gravel roads, creating many entry points.
Entering into
Mount Magazine State Park for 0.6 miles, Huckleberry
Mountain Horse Trail becomes the only trail within Mount
Magazine State Park available for off-highway vehicles.

including:
Sorghum Hollow Horse Camp:
From Paris, Arkansas travel east along AR 22 for 10 miles
From Dardanelle, travel west along AR 22 for 26 miles and turn
south onto Sorghum Hollow Road (gravel) and continue 4.7 miles
to the camp.
Old Walnut Tree Camp:
From AR 22, follow Sorghum Hollow Road for 2.3 miles and turn
right onto Forest Road 1604, 0.2 miles past Shoal Creek
low-water bridge. Travel 0.2 to an open area on the left where a
large walnut tree stands in the center.
Huckleberry Camp:
From AR22, turn south out of Paris onto AR 309 and continue 11
miles to Forest Road 1601 (Spring Lake Road) and turn left.
Continue along Forest Road 1601for 8 miles to Forest Road 1613 (Elkleberry
Road) and turn left. continue along FR 1613 for 3.5 miles to an
open area with a large pond at the end of the road.
Quarry Camp:
From Paris travel south along AR309 for 17 miles and enter Mt.
Magazine State Park and follow signs.
